There appeared to be no skid marks indicated the man braked before hitting the first floor of the home.

Middletown Fire and the city building department are investigating the house portion of the accident, police say.

Police confirmed that the man was taken away in an ambulance to an area hospital. Police have not released the identity of the driver, but did say he was in his mid-40s.

Sgt. Bill Porter told Middletown Patch that there is one occupant in the house who is being ordered to evacuate and the power was shut off.

Porter said police aren't going to move the car yet because it appears the vehicle crashed so far in that it is physically supporting the structure at this point.

A portion of the road between Pearl Street and Rome Avenue has been closed off as police are investigating. This is the section or road that is near the intersection with Main Street and the off-ramp to Route 9.
