Cops: Security Watches Woman Steal $320 in Merchandise From CVS

Middletown Police say a 65-year-old city resident offered to pay the bill after police were summoned. She was still arrested.

Middletown Police announce the following arrests:

SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — On Jan. 18, Ikeem K. McDaniel, 24, of Grand Street turned himself in on an outstanding warrant.

VIOLATION PROBATION — On Jan. 17 at 5:10 p.m., James Rankins, 55, of Rapallo Avenue turned himself in on an outstanding warrant.

EVADING RESPONSIBILITY, INSURANCE FAILS MINIMUM — On Jan. 17 at 2:36 p.m., Roberta Hughes, 68, of Plaza Drive hit a Nissan Sentra on East Main Street while parking at the Dollar Tree store while driving a Toyota Corolla and had gone inside the store to shop. At first, police say, she denied hitting the car then admitted to it, saying she was scared but was going to leave a note on the car.

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE AND REGISTRATION ARE SUSPENDED — On Jan. 17, Andre D.J. Allen, 36, of Afton Terrace was driving on East Main Street with a suspended registration. Police say he is on probation with two narcotics arrests from 2010. He has repeated possession of crack cocaine with intent to sell charges and has done extensive community service.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — On Jan. 15 at 2:20 p.m., Conception Cruz, 65, of Main Street was at a South Main Street sober house, police say, throwing rocks at the window after being locked out. He swore at officers, was agitated and very drunk and threatened to shoot them with a gun while his hand was hidden. Police handcuffed him and he kept yelling, “shoot me!” and defecated himself, the report says. He threw a shoe at the officer and tried to hit him with his belt; in the cell he took off his pants and begged to be killed, the report says. He has 23 convictions including drug arrests, weapon possession, assaults, threatening and larcenies. He was sent to Middlesex Hospital where the threatened to get a gun and shoot every officer, the report says.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — On Jan. 15 at 3:21 p.m., Joseph St. Paul, 28, of Newfield Street was at the scene of a domestic at Stoneycrest Towers in which he had a fight with his mother’s boyfriend and had a cut lip. Police say everyone at the house had been drinking all day and there was broken furniture scattered around. Witnesses said St. Paul began the argument and he has anger issues.

OPERATE UNREGISTERED VEHICLE AND WHILE LICENSE IS SUSPENDED — On Jan. 14 at 3:35 p.m., Raymond M. Greenleaf, 39, of Monarch Lane was driving on Washington Street with an unregistered car.

POSSESSION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, THREATENING, ASSAULT PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER, BREACH OF PEACE — On Jan. 14 at 12:19 a.m., Kyle J. Northrup, 25, of Rome Avenue entered Titanium Bar and Lounge on Main Street while a police officer was checking identification. He was known as a drug dealer and violent criminal linked to gang activity so police denied him entrance. The report says he began yelling at police, saying, “don’t you think people can change?” and preventing others from entering the club. After officers showed their badges, Northrup said, “I got a hundred grand; make that two hundred grand. You don’t know how much I make on the street,” took out some cash and threatened to hit officers in the face with it. The report says he had his fists balled up and threatened to come back at 2 a.m. and beat them up; then chest bumped the officer twice. The officer grabbed his neck, punched him and kneed him in the face to subdue him, the report says; but he continued to physically fight arrest. Police say his record has a second-degree robbery and larceny charge, among others, and he was found with marijuana.

SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — On Jan. 13 at 2:32 p.m., Stephen A. Rivas, 25, of Steele Street, New Britain, turned himself in on an outstanding warrant.

INTERFERING WITH OFFICER, OPERATE UNREGISTERED VEHICLE, FAILURE TO OBEY TRAFFIC SIGNAL — On Jan. 13 at 5:10 p.m., Gary L. Steele, 44, of Batt Street was driving a Ford Taurus Wagon on Union Street and took an illegal right on red onto Main Street. Steele started yelling that police were harassing him and he had fixed the registration problem he had been arrested for previously. His mother was a passenger and he refused to exit the car and continued yelling. He was finally handcuffed and arrested.

THIRD-DEGREE BURGLARY, FOURTH-DEGREE LARCENY — On Jan. 13 at 12:30 a.m., Giano Ferdinando, 19, of Chipping Stone Court, Cheshire, turned himself in on an outstanding warrant.

IMPROPER USE MARKER PLATE, OPERATE UNREGISTERED VEHICLE, INSURANCE FAILS MINIMUM — On Jan. 12 at 9 p.m., Jordan Derr, 21, of Glover Place was driving a Volkswagen Jetta on Main Street and Dingwall Drive, with a license plate for a Honda Civic. Derr told police she had just bought the car and hadn’t had a chance to register it.

BREACH OF PEACE — On Jan. 12 at 8:45 a.m., Davon Rucker, 18, of Hillside Avenue was a Middletown High School when police say he made a disturbing statement involving knifing someone and killing them in front of a teacher — against the teacher’s brother who is a guidance counselor.

DISTRACTED DRIVING, TRAVELING TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS, OPERATION UNREGISTERED VEHICLE AND WHILE LICENSE IS SUSPENDED — On Jan. 10, Ian P. Iavano, 24, of Cherry Lane, Durham, was driving a Nissan on Newfield Street and hit another Nissan while looking at his low fuel gauge, police say.

DRINKING WHILE DRIVING, IMPROPER PARKING — On Jan. 8 at 12:20 a.m., Brandon T. Guimares, 22, of Walnut Street was in a Chevrolet Cavalier stopped in front of a fire hydrant and yellow-painted curb on Grand Street. A large crowd gathered at the car as police called for backup. An officer found two open 12-ounce cans of Budweiser beer in the center console and Guimares’ eyes were bloodshot and glassy. He passed a sobriety test.

SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY — On Jan. 6, police were called to CVS on Main Street Extension for a shoplifter. Lisa Marshall, 56, of Main Street had filled a shopping cart and purse with about 45 items (valued at $318.48) and left the store without paying. She was apologetic and offered to pay for the items.
